Hi I’m Yuyu, a London-based theatre maker and creative producer originally from China. I run Cheeky Chin and I’m really proud.
I work internationally and have made/produced theatre works presented at festivals and venues in London, Beijing, Hong Kong and Canberra.
I’m part of the Young Agitators Programme 2019/20 at the Royal Court Theatre, taking part in industry standard training with professionals, dinners with political activists, attending rehearsals, production meetings, first previews and post-show discussions as meaningful engagement with the season at the Royal Court. I’ve been selected in the Emerging Producers Development Programme 2019 supported by Fringe Central and British Council, which would offer me great opportunities to expand professional networks and develop learning and creative insight at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and British Council Showcase with access to all resources provided by the Arts Industry Office and Fringe Central Events Programme. I’m also in the Young Vic’s Directors Programme 2019, gaining proactive support for emerging directors with a range of opportunities to develop craft including skills workshops, peer-led projects, masterclasses and online network.
My training at MFA Advanced Theatre Practice programme in the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama has enabled me to work in a collaborative environment to make experimental theatre and explore the dynamic relationship between directors, actors and creative producers with innovative approaches to incorporate interdisciplinary practice, promote cultural diversity and challenge the convention of theatre. I have also worked in various positions in technical theatre, company administration and creative producing.
