Yuyu Wang is a London-based performer and theatre maker from China. Her works examine our individual inner worlds with identity exploration through cultural diversity by solo performance, story-telling and devising in the contemporary theatre practice and in the global context. She has considerable experience in theatre making, devising, directing and performing in a collaborative environment. Her works have been presented at festivals and venues in London, Beijing, Hong Kong and Canberra.
She is part of the Young Agitators Programme 2019/20 at the Royal Court Theatre, taking part in industry standard training with professionals, dinners with political activists, attending rehearsals, production meetings, first previews and post-show discussions as meaningful engagement with the season at the Royal Court. Her theatre company Cheeky Chin is the recipient of Package Holiday Production commissioned by the In Good Company to perform in Derby Theatre’s flagship contemporary performance festival Departure Lounge with a week’s residency at the HopBarn in July 2018.
The training at MFA Advanced Theatre Practice programme in the world-leading Royal Central School of Speech and Drama has enabled her to work in a collaborative environment to make experimental theatre and explore the dynamic relationship between director, actor and written text as an aspect of contemporary performance, conceiving the work with innovative approaches to incorporate interdisciplinary practice and challenging the convention of theatre. Apart from taking creative roles in theatre productions, She has also worked in various positions in technical theatre and creative producing.
